Manchester City lose 1-2 to Everton
Manchester City lost out on the chance to go top of the Premier League table as they lost 2-1 at home to Everton at the city of Manchester stadium.
Everton took the lead early through Tim Cahill. In the fourth minute City’s defense was caught napping as Coleman crossed the ball for the Australian to head home from close range.
Leighton Baines made it 2-0 when Victor Anichebe set off on an amazing run down the left, crossing the ball into the box to Cahill, who laid the ball off to Baines to curl home.
In the second half City came out with a purpose taking the game to Everton. Everton’s night was made more difficult when Anichebe was sent off for two yellow cards on 59 minutes. But Everton defense held strong to keep City’s superstars at bay.
On 71 minutes City did manage to pull one back when Yaya Toure’s shot was deflected in his own net by Phil Jagielka. Everton did have a few late scares with Balotelli hitting the post later in the game and Tim Howard did brilliantly to block Tevez’s effort off the rebound.
